Activate Remote Access

  1. If you have a smart lock and want to activate remote access in your Chekin account, you must first log in to your Chekin account via the web.

  2. Once logged in, go to the "Properties" tab and click on your property to access the settings. Then just follow these steps to activate it:

3. Click on the "Remote Access" section within your property settings.

4. Click the button to activate it.

5. Once activated, a pop-up window will appear asking you to select how many properties to activate the functionality on and the total cost of the tool.

6. Next, you must click on ´Add your lock account´ to select your smart lock provider from the options we give you.

7. Select the Lock Type from the first drop down menu (either Manual Key Lockbox or Smart Lock) and then select the provider from the second dropdown menu.

8. Once you have selected it, Chekin will ask you for the username and password to establish the connection.

9. If the credentials are correct, you will then get another pop-up notifying you that the account has been successfully added.

10. Click save.

Now that you have added your account, you will need to Add the doors, and Configure the Instructions, Opening Period, Key Sharing Settings and Key Generation. Please find the instructions on these sections below.

Add door(s)

Once you have connected your Chekin account with your provider, you will need to select the gateway for that property for us to send codes to your guests.

Note: further on in this article we will show you the email sending possibilities we offer.

To link your door to your property, you must follow the steps below:

  1. Find the "Doors" section in the "Remote Access" section.

  2. Click on the "add door" button.

  3. A pop-up window will open in which you will have to select the type of door, its ID and the name you are going to give it in Chekin.

  4. Among the door types you will have to choose between: building door; flat door; smart box; unknown.

  5. Choose the door corresponding to your property in the ID section.

  6. Enter the name of the door.

  7. Click on "add".

  8. Click on "save".

Configure Instructions

This section is optional but is here in case you would like to provide instructions for your guests on how to open the doors or any difficulties they may meet.

Configure the Opening Period

In this section you can select the time frame in which the doors can be opened by your guests. Remember this is a default value that can be adjusted in each reservation.

Configure the Key Sharing Settings

In this section you will configure where and when your guests will be sent the keys. We highly recommend enabling both email and the guestapp so they guest can find the keys in both places.

NOTE: In the ´Sharing Conditionals´ section you can select all the available options, although you should keep in mind that some may interfere with each other, such as the options ´after all guests have registered´ and ´when the main guest has registered´.

Configure the Key generation

In this section you can set the number of days before check-in to generate the access codes for your guests. This will help you optimize the performance and storage capacity of your lock systems.

Save changes

Once you finish with the configuration, please remember to save changes at the bottom of the page.

NOTE: You can find a list of the remote access companies we have integrations with here. Please bear in mind that some lock companies may require you to pay an extra fee in order to allow Chekin to set up the connection. The ones that require a fee are: Akiles, HomeIT, RemoteLock.

Also, it's important for you to understand that all the lock companies in the above link with a tag "powered by RemoteLock" (e.g. Yale, august, EMTEK) are not direct integrations between Chekin and those locks: Chekin covers those through Remote Lock. That means that if you have one of those locks and you want Chekin to generate the codes automatically then you will also need a subscription with RemoteLock service and then you will connect Chekin with your RemoteLock account.
